We press on multiple levers to build capacity and support for quality Black educators and schools in New Orleans.

Black-Governed, Black-Led Schools (BGBLS) Support

Serving as a catalyst for Black-governed and Black-led Schools in New Orleans is at the core of our work. We provide site-based professional development and capacity-building support to cohorts of schools to increase academic and operational quality based on the five essential conditions for effective schools: Effective Leadership and Management; Effective Instruction (Teaching and Learning); Student Culture and Climate; Family and Community Engagement; Finance and Operations.

Black Educator Support

We hold space for leaders of Black-governed, Black-led schools and other Black educators and supporters to regularly come together to strengthen connections, engage in Black-centered professional development, and foster the conditions for strategic collaboration and advocacy from a strength-based foundation.

Black Educator Gatherings

We convene networks of Black educators, parents, nonprofit leaders, community members, scholars, and artists to build knowledge and context on key issues impacting Black education in New Orleans and focus attention on adopting an equity lens that addresses what Dr. Gloria Ladson Billings has coined the "education debt", or the cumulative impact of fewer resources and other harm directed at students of color.
