• Our Programs

There are Black educators doing beautiful work in schools every day and they deserve their flowers.

We are an organization that shows up for, nurtures, and champions New Orleans Black educators and the institutions they lead towards maximizing their potential impact on Black children. We strive to make sure leaders are thriving out of a frame of instructional, operational, personal, and culturally competent leadership and to create spaces of restoration and healing from interpersonal, community, and professional harms. We also help Black education stakeholders connect across lines of difference, think deeply about what they believe the purpose of education is, and build their awareness of opportunities to shape schooling practices in New Orleans.

Programming Approach

  • Strength-based. While we may face challenges, we strive to address them from a strength-based foundation. We continuously ask: What can be learned from Black education historically? What are the things that Black people did for themselves?
  • Communion > Unity. We insist on setting a broad table. We are bridge builders communicating with people in multiple communities. Blackness is not a monolith and where there is dissonance we lean in.
  • Joyful. We focus our efforts on growing what we love and long for versus battling what is negative and destructive. We expend our energy on experiences that shape and heal, bringing greater connectedness and joy.
