Black Brilliance Report

September 2020

Black educators in New Orleans experience unique challenges and hardships due to systemic racism within our school system. And Black-governed, Black-led schools experience racial bias in accessing financial resources and other supports that would help them maximize their positive impact on Black children.

This study sought to answer several research questions.

  1. How do Black education stakeholders describe the value of quality Black educators in New Orleans?
  2. What experiences are Black educators having in New Orleans public schools?
  3. What support do Black educators in New Orleans need to thrive?

Ten core themes emerged that elucidate the perspectives and experiences of Black educators and other Black education stakeholders in direct response to these inquiries.
